A dog and a wolf bay at the moon, a crayfish crawls out of the water, and a path runs between two towers. Moonlight does not illuminate so much as outline, which makes familiar things strange.
The Moon usually means something is not clear. You cannot read the other person, you cannot tell where this is heading. Note that the card does not say something bad is happening. It says you cannot see. People tend to fill that gap with the worst available option.
So it is also a card about anxiety, and its suggestion is to count how many of your current worries have actually occurred. The dog and the wolf are the same animal; one you keep in the house and one you fear. Under this light you cannot tell them apart.
Reversed usually reads well. The fog is lifting, hidden things are surfacing. An ambiguous situation resolves, or the thing that felt off is confirmed as off. Not necessarily pleasant, but better than not knowing.
The Moon gets nailed down as lies or betrayal. It is closer to a state where what you can see is not all of it. Rather than someone deceiving you, the shape simply has not resolved, and much of the anxiety comes from missing information rather than actual danger. Which is why, with this card, deferring the decision often costs nothing.
With the High Priestess it says it is not yet time to speak. With the Sun it says the fog lifts soon. The Moon is a stretch you pass through rather than a state you stay in, and the neighbour tells you how much is left.
