Ace of Swords
검 에이스

Thought and speech. Sharp enough to cut.

Upright

clarity · truth · cutting through

Reversed

confusion · wrong read · words missing

A hand comes out of a cloud holding a single sword straight up. A crown sits at the tip, and below it runs a line of bare mountain peaks. As the first card of Swords it is about the mind, and specifically the moment a thought comes clean. A blade cuts, and what it usually cuts here is confusion.

The Ace of Swords tends to appear when one fact becomes clear. The real cause of the problem the meeting kept circling finally surfaces. The job decision you have been chewing on for weeks reduces to one honest reason. Something you kept dodging in a relationship finally gets said out loud. It may not be a comfortable truth, only a clear one.

Reversed, it reads two ways. In one, the blade is pointed at the wrong thing: you have misdiagnosed the problem and are working hard on fixing something else. In the other, the words are not landing. You said plenty, and the other person still missed the point. Either way, writing down the facts in one column and your interpretation in another usually shows where the knot is.

The card asks one thing. Can you state the problem in a single sentence? If not, your thinking has not been sorted yet — it has only piled up.

People often read it as 'you will win'. The Ace is about judgment more than outcome; the crown sits on the sword's point, not in the hand. Seeing correctly is the whole of its job, and what happens after is handed to the cards around it.

With Justice it leans toward the evidence being all in and ready to weigh. With the Moon the fog is still thick, so the thought that feels most certain is the one to doubt again.
