A young person stands on dry, open ground holding a wand taller than they are, gazing up at its tip. There is a feather in their cap and a pattern of salamanders on their tunic, and in the distance rise hills shaped like pyramids. The Page of Wands is someone who has just been caught by something — or a way of acting like that. They may not know much, but if they are curious, they pick it up.

This could be you or someone close by. The new hire firing off questions in their first week. The friend who has decided pottery is next and is already looking at studios. You, paying for a course in a field you had never heard of a month ago. It can also be read as news or an idea about something new coming your way. Clumsiness is fine. At this stage, clumsy is normal.

Reversed, there are two readings. One is too many interests and nothing held — five hobbies started, none of them seen through. The other concerns news. Some of the exciting talk is inflated, so when you hear that something 'can't fail', look first at who is saying it.

The question is whether this curiosity will still be there in a week. If it is, the interest is real. If it fades, it was a flash. You only find out by trying.

Reading the Page simply as 'still young' sees half of it. Yes, it is inexperienced — but that is exactly where its strength comes from. People who know a field well stop asking. The Page asks.

With the Fool, the fearless energy of beginnings is doubled, and the answer is to just try. With the Eight of Pentacles, a passing curiosity settles into steady practice.
