Bali's terraced rice fields are managed by subak, a water-sharing system run by village councils for over a thousand years, and it is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Who gets water, and when, is decided in meetings. Indonesia is majority Muslim, but Bali remained Hindu, so temples and daily ritual are woven into ordinary life there.

Nature reads clearly high. Given the board, you chose somewhere time slows down near water and green over several days of walking a city. Not the extreme end, though — this is nature with people living in it and somewhere to eat, not isolation.

Adventure and aesthetic both sit a little above the middle. You'd accept some roughness but it isn't the point, and you like things to look good without that being the whole trip. People who pick Bali are mostly going to rest, with one day set aside for actually doing something.

You travel well here with someone who can sit through an empty afternoon. The best day in Bali is usually the unplanned one, so a companion who needs the schedule filled will find you both frustrated. In a bracket Bali depends heavily on the matchup. Against cities it pulls a clean split of the vote; against other nature destinations it tends to lose. The impression of it as a place to rest is so strong that anyone travelling to see something drops it early.

The nearest square is Cape Town, then Rio — all three like the place where nature and a city are mixed. The furthest is New York, which to someone who picked Bali often reads less like a holiday than a business trip.
