Feeling and what runs between people.

Upright

a flutter · confession · news

Reversed

immature · over-feeling · not serious

A young person in a blue tunic patterned with flowers stands by the sea holding a cup. A fish pokes its head out of the cup, and the young person looks at it with open curiosity. Waves roll behind.

The Page of Cups is not a stage but a person — you, or someone near you. Someone honest about feelings, easily delighted, bad at hiding what they feel. When this card comes up, there tend to be flutters and confessions in the air: a sudden message from someone you have been circling, a junior colleague awkwardly saying thank you, you yourself trying out a way of saying something you have never said before.

Reversed, that openness turns immature. Feelings run ahead, so words and actions are all over the place, or every bad mood shows instantly on the face. In another direction, feeling gets treated as a joke — someone brushes off what you meant seriously, or you are embarrassed and cover it with a laugh. Either way, talk again once things have settled.

The question it asks: if you are not saying how you feel, is it because you are still unsure, or because you are afraid of being turned down?

Reading the Page as 'childish' wastes it. The awkwardness is not a weakness; it means they have not yet learned to calculate. That is exactly why they say first what the adults in the room will not.

With the Ace of Cups, this is the first time a new feeling gets put into words. Overlapping with the Moon, there is a lot of imagination mixed into the flutter — check whether you are reading the other person's signals the way you wish they were.
