A king sits on his throne in a robe covered with grapevines. He holds a sceptre in one hand and a pentacle in the other; bull heads are carved into the throne, and a castle stands behind him. This is someone who built things up over a long time and now sits where the big decisions are made.

It might be you or someone close. The owner who has kept a small shop going for over a decade, the manager who holds the budget and makes the call, the relative everyone phones first when the family hits a money problem. Someone trusted less for what they say than for what they have built.

Reversed, that solidity hardens. One way is being bound by money — weighing everything as profit and loss until people drift away. The other is stubbornness: trusting only the methods that have worked so far and tuning out other views.

The question it asks is whether you have decided, yourself, what to protect with what you have and what to grow. If you have, that is the king's seat. If you are only watching a number get bigger, not yet.

Reading it simply as 'rich' gets half of it. The wealth here is closer to foundations than to a balance. He holds a single coin, but the castle behind him is his work too, and the card shows someone answerable for all of it.

With the Ten of Pentacles a personal achievement becomes ground for a family. Next to the Emperor practical means gain authority, and the weight of each decision grows.
