The Tinkerer
INTPWill stay up all night if something doesn't add up. The why beats the answer.
Took three days to reply to your text — but figured out how black holes work in the meantime.
They'll see this type's write-up. Your test answers stay with you.
Who they are
Someone at lunch wonders aloud why the elevator always skips your floor. That night, you're three articles deep into elevator dispatch algorithms. You can't sleep until a question is chased down. You look calm and a little detached, but your head is loud. When you go quiet mid-conversation, you're not sulking — you're poking holes in what was just said. Twenty minutes later: "Oh, about that thing earlier..."
Your strength is re-examining what everyone else takes for granted. "We've always done it this way" sends you hunting for why, and sometimes you fix a mess nobody noticed. You see problems as structures, not feelings, so you can be surprisingly fair in a fight. Your analogies make hard ideas click.
The weak link is follow-through. Once you understand something, the spark fades and the finishing is left to someone else. You also reply to messages in your head and forget to actually send them. When a friend vents, try "that sounds rough" before the counterargument.
Strengths and blind spots
- Questions the obvious and finds the hidden problem.
- Explains complex things with killer analogies.
- Stays fair and calm when others are fighting.
- Loses interest once the puzzle is solved.
- Sends replies only in their head.
- Offers a counterpoint when comfort was needed.
In everyday life
- In love
- When you like someone, they become your favorite subject. You'll forget the anniversary but remember an offhand comment from months ago. Instead of saying "I miss you," you send a link they'd love — which, honestly, means the same thing.
- At work
- You're at your best on problems nobody has solved yet, not on repeating a manual. Time management is your weak spot, so set check-in dates early. You're the one who's silent all meeting, then asks the one question that matters.
- As a friend
- You don't text often, but meeting up feels like no time has passed. You love "what if" games and will seriously plan your zombie escape route over drinks. Usually a little late, always with good stories.
