About you

You're the first to notice who isn't there. Even with everyone laughing, the person who has gone quiet at the edge lands in your eye, and you drift over without making a thing of it. The looking-after is habit rather than calculation, so it never registers as anything special — which is why the gathering feels thin when you skip it.

You have the thing that keeps relationships going for years. Birthdays, the hard stretch someone else has let slide — you hold it and hand it back at the right moment, and that keeps people close. The trouble with saying no comes from the same place: your body decides that taking the small loss beats being disliked.

Your own hurt goes to the very back of the queue. Swallowed long enough, it comes out later over something unrelated, and the other person has no idea what happened. Naming it briefly, the same day, is the relationship skill this type actually needs. Apply even half your care standard to yourself and the burnout gets much further away.

Praise makes you awkward. Looking after people is so ordinary to you that being recognised for it doesn't compute, so a thank-you gets waved off with 'it was nothing'. But receiving is part of the exchange too. The moment you let a thank-you land, the person who offered it gets to feel settled as well.

What actually makes this person angry isn't being slighted — it's watching someone they look after get treated carelessly. The one who absorbs everything suddenly doesn't move an inch. That's when a room learns that a gentle person going cold is a serious thing.
